ECP (Expedition Care Programme) Venturer Medicine,  First Aid Training Course - 2 Days/16hrs.

Course Duration: 16 hours across two consecutive days (9am - 5:30pm each day)

Fee per person: £180

Outdoor First Aid Training

We offer a tailored two day Outdoor First Aid Training for Forest School Leaders and Outdoor Education professionals. This course includes elements of Paediatric First Aid and covers requirements for: Institute for Outdoor learning Outdoor First Aid Band 3.

Working outside of the school classroom within a woodland environment brings unique challenges when it comes to administering First Aid. This professional training equips you to deal with incidents in woodland and countryside settings which are often remote - remote meaning 30 mins or more from safety.

Learning outcomes

This 2-day course is designed for group leaders working in remote areas. This course is recognised by all outdoor governing bodies e.g. MTUKI, BCU, RYA etc. and exceeds the recommendations for the HSE.

Day 1 

  • Aims & Responsibilities of the First Responder 

  • Priorities of Treatment 

  • Summoning appropriate help/rescue services  

  • Primary & Secondary Assessment 

  • Resuscitation   

  • Airway Obstruction - Choking 

  • Bleeding - Major & Minor 

  • Shock 

  • Basic Wilderness Fractures 

  • Wilderness Burns 

  • Expedition Hygiene 

  • Extremes of Temperature - Hypothermia & Hyperthermia 

  • Use of an AED 

  • This day also includes elements of Emergency Paediatric First Aid 

Day 2 

  • Intermediate Wilderness Fractures 

  • Spinal Injuries 

  • Evacuation Techniques 

  • Treatment for Minor Injuries, Small Cuts, Blisters, Bites & Stings  

  • Common Disorders 

  • Providing emotional support and promoting the wellbeing and mental health of first aiders post incident 

Course Literature 

As part of the course you will also receive a copy of the book: `Outdoor First Aid` - an `InstructUK` publication that is suitable for a range of outdoor related First Aid training programmes.  

Assessment: Continuous Assessment takes place during this course.

Valid: 3 years.
