Certification Awarded: The KCC Camp Fire Management Award (CFMA).

Course Duration: 1 day (9.30am to 4.30pm)

Fee per Person: £150 +VAT (this course can only be booked via The Education People)

Course Requirements: A current First Aid certificate will be required to validate this award.

KCC Camp Fire Management Award

On behalf of Kent County Council, EarthCraftuk were commissioned to develop the KCC Camp Fire Management Award and have been successfully delivering the training over the past 8 years. This training day provides participants with the skills required for building and supervising group camp fires, and understanding how fire can be used as a tool for learning and development.

The course will comprise of practical sessions covering camp fire craft: safely building, lighting, maintaining and management of the camp fire with the sustainable use of natural resources. We will also cover the risk benefit assessment process and camp fire policy and procedures.

Participants that complete this course are accredited with the Camp Fire Management Award; Kent County Council accredited and recognised when seeking employer's approval for having a camp fire in your setting or away on a school residential programme.

Programme Outline:

  • To introduce the benefits of camp fire activities.

  • Choosing suitable locations. Safety considerations for different ages and abilities.

  • The fire circle - safety, structure and group management.

  • Choice and types of fires, and fire lighting skills.

  • Wood fuel choices and burning.

  • Campfire activities and group interaction.

  • Health and hygiene issues relating to simple camp fire cooking.

  • The environment, sustainability and conservation.
