Level 2 Award for Forest School Assistants

New for 2018.  

To become a Forest School Assistant, this Level 2 training programme covers two units of study: 1 unit at Level 2 and 1 unit at Level 3 (this to enable an easier top up process to Level 3 if required within 18 months of qualifying).  Once achieved, qualifies you to assist at Forest School (not to lead). To achieve this qualification, it is essential that you are working with an established qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader, to enable the assessment criteria to be met.  

UNIT 1: Supporting a Forest School Programme:  Learning & Development

           GLH: 30  TQT: 40   LEVEL: 2

UNIT 2: Supporting a Forest School Programme:  Practical Skills

            GLH: 18   TQT: 30  LEVEL 3

Your Course Commitment:

The course consists of 7 credits (70 hours Total Qualification Time) and equates to min of 35 hours of formal taught time and requires on average a further 35 hours of self directed study time.   You will also need to attend 100% of the planned training programme dates, organise your own placement to assist a qualified Level 3 Forest School Leader with the planning, delivery and evaluation of  3 consecutive weekly sessions with the same small group of participants. You need to submit your coursework for marking and verification within 6 months of starting the programme.  Please note, as with all Forest School training, you will need to continually build your knowledge and skill level.

The Training Format - please note, your training is ALL in the stunning woodland.

Intensive Week: The course starts with five days of theoretical and practical skills which is all woodland based - 9.30am to 5pm each day.

Perform the role of Assistant at a Forest School in relation to the Forest School ethos, principles and criteria:  You will work alongside your Level 3 Forest School leader in assisting with a minimum of three consecutive weekly sessions within a longer term Forest School programme. Your role is to assist with the planning, delivery, evaluations and observations of participants.

Submission of Coursework: Your coursework needs to be completed for submission within 6 months of starting the training programme.  Extensions can be granted only in exceptional circumstances (max 2 years). Once everything is submitted your coursework will be marked and verified (within 12 weeks) of final submission.
